Begin early and have an exciting 30 -35-minute flight to Lukla, the access point to the Everest region. On arrival, you get acquainted with your trekking crew and start the first day of the trek. The path is a gradual downhill with forests of pine and along the Dudh Koshi River, going by small villages of the Sherpa people with colorful prayer flags waving along the trail. It is a rather moderate walk and takes 3 to 4 hours, taking you to Phakding, a sleepy town with teahouses, and you stop there to rest and get some local hospitality.

This is a particularly significant day since you are entering Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, world-renowned for its beauty and biodiversity. The trail gently climbs following the Dudh Koshi River and crosses some suspension bridges with spectacular views of fast-flowing rivers and steep valleys. You ride along tiny hamlets and rhododendron forests and experience the transformation of the landscape to an alpine region. As you ascend higher, the air becomes thinner and you start to see the magnificent mountains such as Thamserku.

Namche Bazaar is a cultural and logistical highlight. This market town, the capital of the Sherpa, is a busy trading place and a base for trekking goods. There are colorful shops, cafes, and lodges here. The altitude of 3,440 meters makes Namche a crucial acclimatization stop to help your body adjust before ascending further into the high Himalayas.

High altitude treks always require acclimatization days, and Namche provides the ideal place to rest and acclimatize. This moderate uphill walk assists your body to acclimatize to altitude and still experience the fantastic views of the Himalayas. The day will also shape your experience of Sherpa culture and traditions as you explore Namche Bazaar.

This rest day will allow your guide to describe altitude sickness and precautions. It is also very advisable to visit the Sherpa Culture Museum to learn about the Sherpa people and their past and their lifestyle in the Sherpa region. It is a day of moderate activity and cultural exploration to prepare you physically and psychologically to take on the busy trekking days that lie ahead.

The hike to Tengboche is a remarkable combination of nature and religion. Leaving Namche, the trail goes through pine and rhododendron forests, and you find breathtaking views of mountains around you. The best part of the day is walking to the largest and most significant monastery of the Everest region, Tengboche Monastery. Located at 3,867 meters, it is the honeycomb place to see Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse towards prayer flags waving in the winds of the Himalayas.

This monastery plays a crucial role as a center of Tibetan Buddhism of more local Sherpa culture. The main prayer hall is where visitors can often witness monks performing traditional rituals. This place offers time to have a spiritual break as trekkers can spend time in the calm atmosphere. This is one of the best days of the trek, characterized by some of the best scenery and also culture.

The modern hike is 5-6 hours and includes a soft climb through open valleys and small villages. Leaving the wooded hills above Tengboche, you re-cross the Imja Khola and continue along the picturesque Sherpa village of Pangboche, with its old monastery and peasant culture. The terrain gradually becomes vast alpine grasslands that look at the high Himalayan peaks. You will arrive in Dingboche, a very lovely village with terraced fields. Here, you acclimatize for a second day, because the altitude gains more and the terrain changes into more alpine and less forested.

Dingboche is a second key acclimatization post at 4,410 meters. It is located in a quiet alpine environment in the shadow of the high Himalayan mountains. Today, you will hike to Nagarjun Hill or some other nearby vista, which is higher than 5,000 meters. The climb is manageable enough to ensure your body acclimatizes to the thinner air but offers breathtaking views of Makalu, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, and so is worth it.

The remaining period is dedicated to recovery and readiness to overcome the remaining difficult days. The teahouses at Dingboche provide a friendly welcome and comfortable protection following an exhausting day. The altitude present here makes this acclimatizing day vital to avoid illness and condition towards the final high passes and base camp trek.

The walk to Lobuche, which takes approximately 5-6 hours, is even more rugged and barren. You will cross chortens that memorialize those climbers who died on Everest. This path is along the glacial moraine and rocky paths and represents you getting closer to the more extreme landscape of the high Himalayas. Lobuche is a tiny village that provides simple accommodation and panoramic views of the neighboring mountains. It makes your body and mind ready to go through difficult days ahead as you walk towards the Everest Base Camp.

This is the highlight of the hike, the famous Everest Base Camp, the camp that climbers gear up for the mountaineering adventure of all time. The climb between Lobuche and Gorak Shep is not easy, and, passing across moraine fields, you travel across rock. Once at Gorak Shep, you will stay for a short period before proceeding to the base camp itself, with colorful tents dominating the drab icefalls of the Khumbu Glacier. The air is charged, full of reverence and wonder at the power of the mountain.

Spending time at Everest Base Camp allows trekkers to fully grasp the enormity of the Himalayan environment and the challenges faced by mountaineers. Once you have had your fill of the incredible views, you head back to Gorak Shep to rest up, ready to tackle Kala Patthar early in the morning.

Kala Patthar provides the best panoramic view of Everest and the neighboring mountains, so this is the most famous hike of the entire trek. You begin in the dark and ascend steeply before sunrise, getting to the top when the sun bathes the mountains in gold. This memorable view of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse in the morning rays may be called the culminating point of any Himalayan trek. The view captures the grandeur and the beauty of the region.

After descending to Gorak Shep for breakfast, you continue trekking down to Pheriche. This descent route gives your body time to rest and mitigates the effects of altitude. Pheriche is a peaceful place with great views, offering a nice break in your journey back down to lower altitudes.

You retrace your steps through the lovely Khumbu region today. The path takes you back to Pangboche and then Tengboche, where you can see the famous monastery again and admire the view of Ama Dablam. The higher up you go, the air gets warmer and full of oxygen, which helps you walk with ease. You will pass suspension bridges, pine forests, and reach Namche Bazaar in the afternoon. It provides a welcome break from walking the days, relaxing, buying souvenirs, and trying the local food in this busy Sherpa town.

On the last day of your trek, you go through the forests and the river along with small villages such as Monjo and Phakding. This trail is a downhill trail that gives an opportunity to think about your amazing trek. Arriving at Lukla, you celebrate your successful trek with your guides and porters. At Lukla, there is a bustling market which contrasts with the peaceful mountain villages. There you can have a good meal and get ready to fly back the following day to Kathmandu.

Take an early morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. It is a beautiful flight where you can have another glance at the Himalayan peaks once more. On arrival, move to your hotel and check in. Afternoon is free to shop, sightsee, or rest. You may visit the cultural heritage sites of Kathmandu, like the Durbar Square or the Boudhanath Stupa, or just sit in a cafe in Thamel. This is a day of pleasant transition between trekking and city life.
